Kate Moss: my style benchmark

I need one of these NOW!

They can be shopped only by internet, and everytime I tried they were sold-out - because it's handmade and they weren't expecting such a huge success. What can I say, the more difficult to acquire, the more I want it!

They are made as standard unisex pieces, and are all in the same shape and size. It costs around €89 and can be sent worldwide.

The new collection will be available on their web shop tomorrow, on February 24th

Designer Ashley Payne's work on Puma-McQueen collaboration

Even after PPR Group having communicated that McQueen brand will be kept alive, Puma hasn't decided yet if the collaboration between the two brands will keep going. Yet, footwear designer Ashley Payne, from Detroit is working on it as a personal project, improving her portfolio in the most creative, beautiful and functional way I've seen lately. She has just designed these amazing convertible 3-in-1 moto boots very accurately and creatively based on the Puma-McQueen collaboration concept.

One good approach

Lady Gaga on Brit Awards 2010

AMAZING performance! Alone on stage with perfect presence, perfect voice, perfect music choice, perfect look, and all dedicated to McQueen...

And of course I couldn't not talk about her outfit. First time she doesn't show her curves. She looks like a pine covered in snow - it would be just perfect for Christmas time :)

Barbie GaGa

This is pure Pop Art, using 50-year-old fashion doll Barbie as a mannequin to superpopstar-Gaga's crazy outfits.

The details truly amazing. Andy Warhol would be so proud :)

Some of these were made by Beijing artist Veik, and some by Hong Kong designer Lu Wei Kang - both 29 years old.

Google apologises for Buzz flaws

Well, it was about time they did, as the privacy flaws of Goggle Buzz are really serious. Here's a part of the article from BBC about it:

Google has admitted to BBC News that testing of its controversial social network Buzz was insufficient.
The firm has had to make a series of changes to the service after a ferocious backlash from users concerned about intrusions of privacy.
"We've been testing Buzz internally at Google for a while. Of course, getting feedback from 20,000 Googlers isn't quite the same as letting Gmail users play with Buzz in the wild."
He acknowledged that many of the networks "tens of millions" of users were "rightfully upset" and that the firm was "very, very sorry".
"We know we need to improve things."
Privacy priorities
Buzz was launched on 9 February. The service, which is integrated with Gmail, allows users to post status updates, share content and read and comment on friends' posts.
One problem that immediately caused concern was Google's decision to automatically give users a ready-made circle of friends based on the people they most frequently e-mailed.
Mr Jackson told BBC News that the decision to create these automatic lists was borne out of the idea that Google "wanted to provide a great user experience straight out of the box". Unless users changed settings in their profile, this list could automatically be made public, allowing anyone to see who a user corresponded with most frequently.
But privacy experts immediately pointed out this could cause problems for journalists, businesses or even people having an illicit affair.
Asked if the Google founders - Larry Page and Sergey Brin - or any of the executive team would issue an apology for breaching their user's trust, a Google spokesperson said: "Google has apologised - we're very sorry for the concern we caused."

Long Live McQueen

I was sure there would be tributes to king McQueen on this NYFW. But honestly, I was expecting more. Some just ignored the fact that one colleague had just commited suicide and kept the show going without any kind of pronounciation, which is not nice at all. They should have done it even if just as a PR action, right? I think so. But some didn't disappoint, and here I highlight crazy Betsey Johnson. Simple and touching.

Here are some other tributes:

I was devastated by the fact that the McQueen house's show in NYFW was cancelled., though. He worked  so hard for that and that would be just the perfect opportunity to pay the greatest tribute to him - and I'm positive that everybody would appreciate having the opportunity of standing in ovation for his creations for the last time. But of course, that's a very personal matter and I completely respect the family's decision.

Long Live McQueen - you'll always be a great source of inspiration for our generation and the next to come.

Grammys - the performances

Lady Gaga's performance was amazing. It was really fun and she looked great on that body with huge shoulders, just like a glitter heart. She is a performer, a show girl, that's her main strenght. But her voice sounded really good as well, and the 'gran finale' with Elton John was great.

Pink's performance was nice and artistic, but I didn't get why she chose such a quiet and sad song. She is so powerful and she wasn't able to show all her energy with that choice. But I loved the aerial dance.

Beyoncé's was tedious, even though she sang Alanis Morrissette's best-ever song in the middle of her performance. But she just couldn't make it right. Watch it here.

Grammys - the looks

Ok, the Grammys are nice, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift did really well and Kings of Leon got some awards too. But what I really want to talk about now is those ladies' looks.

Starting, of course, with Lady Gaga:

Really, I usually love her outfits and her whole style - hair, shades, shoes, makeup, etc - but what the hell just happened here? First of all: her face looks just like Amy's! (Winehouse, of course). I can see that her image is a statement and I truly deeply love that, but that doesn't mean she has to show up uglier and uglier everytime.  And what about her skin tone? She is grey as if she had been just unburied from the snow.

This spacial Armani Privé (how come???) dress wasn't that good either. Come on, she looks like a statue in the entrance of a science museum. I know everybody loves that she looks completely freaky everytime and I find it awful and terribly disapointing when she tries to look like a pretty girl... but I don't know, this choice just wasn't right for her.

Beyoncé

She looks really classy in this Stéphane Rolland dress. That is not exactly what I would have chosen for her, but in my opinion, it works well there. I was surprised though, this is not her usual sexy-bootylicious style at all! Oh, and I think her hair could have been the sexy touch in this outfit, wearing it natural, curly, voluminous... that would have shown a little more of Be's identity and would be better balanced with her supercurvy body. Her head looks so small in this look!

Taylor Swift

She looks stunning in this Kaufman Franco dress. So elegant and so sexy at the same time.

Pink

I always think Pink looks amazing, but this outfit just blew my mind. She looks like a saint on this beautiful white hoodie-gown. A very trendy one, by the way.

Ciara

I hated it! She looks as if she were Robocop's widow. I just don't know what else to say...   oh yeah, it's Givenchy Haute Couture.

Jennifer Nettles

This was my favourite look, even though the dress is by Victoria Beckham. But it's all perfect - the cut, the colour, the contrast with her pale skin, the classy black details, the natural hair... everything really well put together. Loved it.

Jennifer Lopez

Her hair looks nice, but all the rest just looks wrong. I don't like this assimetrical Versace dress at all, the silvery part looks cheap, and her makeup looks just awful. Why did she whiten her skin? I prefer tanned Jen all the way.

Rihanna

What to say about this girl? I think this Elie Saab Haute Couture dress is overwhelming, but it's not the right choice for the occasion, neither the right choice for her. Maybe on Heidi Klum at the Oscar Ceremony? And I really don't like her hair in this look. Maybe in another outfit it would look nice, but definetly not in this dress.

Be Stupid - by Diesel

At first I thought this campaign was tailor made for me, even though I really don't like Diesel and all its 'successful living' concept. But ok, this one seemed like a nice campaign, repositioning the brand by not encouraging this 'money-sex-success-I'mbetterthanyou' image they did before.

The thing is that at first glance, this new campaign seems to be talking to another kind of 'cool people', this chilled, creative, artistic kind who don't take life too seriously and aren't apparently worried about the image they're projecting. Nothing to do with the former Diesel standard, who obviously worried about projecting success. But as I started to search for more information about it, I noticed that 'stupid' as they use it is not really addressed to creative people that might be seen as stupid by conservative people (that they call 'smart'). It's addressed to all those who want to project this image of being supercool doing virtually anything - because oh, you think you are so smart, but you wouldn't dare doing what I do, then I'm cooler than you. So nothing really changed.

Ok, really coherent with the brand's DNA, I see. So this campaign is just a new way to addressing those supercool people and telling them to show that they're on top of the worlds by wearing Diesel - for a successful living. This "I'm creative, I do whatever I want, I don't care about rules and about what other people think" is just the new form of "successful living", brought to this post-recession times. It's all about simple things, so they cut the glamour out of the ads, and bring in this artistic, creative aura. They're very nicely following behaviour trends in their communication, but not really changing anything about the main message - that is always something like 'you are better than this bunch of losers'.

So here are the ads. The obvious insight here is the resignification of the word 'stupid', into something really cool. Which I like, for obvious reasons. But I was truly amazed in a bad way about how they just resignificate and stereotype 'smart' into boring, life-lacking people who are unhappy and unwilling to try anything new.

But ok, being creative (or stupid, whatever) is really nice and it's a cool concept for the campaign. I like it. It just didn't make me feel any different about Diesel, but ok, it wasn't supposed to. With all this 'stupid' idea I thought I could identify for once with the brand, but no. I'm not their target after all. I just figured out I'm not the kind of stupid they want.

And this is the catalogue, which is nice/cool/stupid: Catalogue.pdf
